Society Check out the jazz happenings in Tucson.
• The
Bottom Line The
Bottom Line is a bass forum that comes to you in digest form.
I've been posting since '94. It's a great
resource for all sorts of bass info, and over the years
has become an extended family. The archives are online and
you
can find
all sorts of stuff there including my now legendary face-offs
with CK. Who was right? You decide! The link takes you
to the official web site where you can sign up for TBL. Or
just send
an email to: majordomo@magpie.com. In the message body
type: subscribe bass-digest and soon you'll be hanging on TBL.
• The Bass Place,
Tempe, AZ These guys are great,
when I first moved to AZ, I taught at ASU in Tempe. I'd always
hit The Bass Place when I had a break in my schedule. Everyone
there is very helpful, friendly and wise in the way of the bass.
They have all the best new gear, and a great selection of used
axes and amps. I made friends with sales associate Lee Miller
who officially welcomed me from the East Coast by dubbing me "Ed-Bob".
• Bass
Northwest, Seattle, WA They have
an amazing online selection, very complete. They were
extremely helpful
when it came time to sell off an exotic, custom built
6 string of mine, they moved it when no one else could! Evan
and Chad are great folks, and very reputable. I stopped by
recently when I was in Seattle, it's an amazing place.
• Mybass.net The
Bass Player's Internet resource.
• Bass Books.com They
sell bass books, I write bass books, a match made in heaven!
• BassLessons.com Looking for a bass teacher
in your area?
• BassLinks.com Robby Garner of BassLessons.com
has put together another killer bass site. It has 810 links
(so far) to anything a bass player could want.
• Musicplayer.com A complete site for all
things bass and musical.
• Chris
Tarry Chris is a Canadian bassist
that has done quite a lot of cool things. His
solo CDs are a cool
blend of modern jazz and fusion influences.
He was a driving force behind Activebass.com, a very comprehensive
bass education
site. He very kindly chose to interview me
for the November 2000 feature
on Activebass. Thanks Chris!
• ActiveBass.com Here's the site that could
put guys like me out of business! There's a lot of information
here,
and a play along tool, and more. Lot's of interesting stuff
for bass players. Check out my interview too!
• WWW.Basslinks.nl This is a very cool
bass site from the Netherlands.
• The
Dude Pit Steve "Dude" Barr
is the internet's number 1 bass fanatic! He has assembled his
own
online hang that is fun, informative,
and decidedly un-stuffy. Aside
from the various topics, there are some
cool manufacturer's forums. Dude is THE man to talk to about
a J-Retro Preamp.
•
Vintage
Bass Trading Company This is Steve Barr's business
site. He buys and sells vintage basses. He's a cool guy,
very trustworthy, and has the coolest swag for sale anywhere.
The VBTC logo t-shirts are very cool, I have a few.
• Gary
Willis Gary
is the man! Besides being an amazing player, he is truly one
of the great teachers.
I had
the chance to take a lesson with him
a few summers ago- my first lesson in 21 years, and boy did
I need it! He pointed
out things
I would have never seen on my
own. Now all I have to do is PRACTICE! Check out this site
and enjoy his dry sense of
humor
as well as his insightful bass info.
• Todd
Johnson Todd
is a monster player, and a good friend. He plays 6 string bass
with a midi pickup
triggering
a Hammond B3 sound. He walks and
plays chords at the same time, then solos over the top. He's
been a big inspiration to me.
He's got a new CD out and you can get it at his website.
• Bob
Gollihur Bob has long been a voice
of sanity on The Bottom Line, one
of the longest running bass forums on
the web. Bob has assembled a mind
boggling amount of links geared toward the upright bass. I
think you can find just about
anything
you need here, from pickups to
bows, instruction, buying basses, players pages, luthier references
by region. If you have an
upright bass question, look here first! He sells basses, pickups,
everything.
